Allowing mold to infest your home has many consequences. First, they are a major nuisance and can make the indoor environment unhealthy. In addition, their presence is associated with respiratory complications, including triggering asthma. They can also leave stains on walls, create musty odors, and make your home uncomfortable. Unfortunately, modern lifestyles keep us so busy that it's sometimes difficult to keep mold out of our homes. So what should you do if you wake up one morning and find that your home is infested? In this article, you will learn what you need to do to rid your home of mold.
- Put on sturdy clothes that you can throw away when you are done.
- Put on a dust mask and goggles
- Wear gloves made of neoprene materials or PVC
- Do not wear rubber gloves as they react with mold cleaners.
- Make sure you adequately ventilate the home. Use a fan if possible.
Start by sealing open areas in the room you plan to use and blocking doorways or air ducts. Make sure that any damaged areas are sealed.
Remove insulating surfaces on the wall
When cleaning the walls, check to see if there are any insulating surfaces that could be hiding mold. If the wall is damp, the patterns may become deeper. Therefore, you may need to drill into the wall to destroy and remove them. If the growth is extensive, remove the affected portion and have the fence repaired. If the wooden structure shows signs of rooting and moisture, remove it.
The removed materials should be placed in an airtight polyethylene bag and discarded. The moldy area should also be scraped and cleaned. Also, wipe down the wall until you have removed all stains. Use detergent to wipe the area. Do not use water as this may dilute the cleaning agent.
If you cannot afford a mold cleaner, use a homemade cleaner. It is just as effective. All you need to do is mix an ordinary bleach, soap and some vinegar. However, be careful not to use too much water. This could dilute the solution and reduce its effectiveness.
Once you are done cleaning, use a dehumidifier like LGR PRO to dry the area. This is an efficient dehumidifier that controls the humidity in your home. This will reduce the likelihood that the mold will grow back.
Once the surfaces are dry, investigate to see if you have succeeded in removing all mold. If you find signs of mold growth, you can repeat the process. However, if there are no signs of further growth, proceed to the next step.
Clean all exposed surfaces to prevent water seepage. You can impregnate the surface with a penetrating sealer and have it painted. Finally, insulate the wall and watch for signs of mold.
